![]() icouldbe.org’s International ProgramsGrowing icouldbe.org’s programs internationally is a natural extension of our mission to reach underprivileged youth with the career and educational guidance they need. Following icouldbe.org’s presentation at the E-Learning in Africa Conference 2008, African educators and non-profits are reaching out to us to bring the power of e-mentoring to the continent’s youth. Often, our partners use donated computers and endure irregular access to electricity and the Internet, making even the simplest of connections challenging. Still, the positive responses from our students have been overwhelming. Since 2006, we have worked with Mkombozi, an organization that serves street children and orphans in Tanzania, connecting at-risk youth with online mentors who can positively impact their futures. In urban Kampala, Uganda, we are reaching young people from low-income communities by connecting their high schools with a specially tailored e-mentoring curriculum and mentors from their country. Private sector partnerships in Kenya have the potential to bring e-mentoring to students at vocational schools, colleges and universities across the country. We are also working with educators in English-speaking West African nations to tailor our online mentoring curriculum to meet their students’ needs. If you are working internationally and would like to help bring icouldbe.org to your organization or institution, please contact icouldbe.org’s Director of Education Nathaniel Calhoun (kate@icouldbe.org). |
