Why E-Mentoring?

One in three students will drop out of high school this year; in communities of color, the rate rises to one in two. Many are from low-income communities. And with the guidance counselor ratio in the US as high as 1:5,000, most do not have a trusted professional to steer them towards their dreams.

icouldbe.org’s online mentoring programs pioneer innovative technology solutions to address the educational and career needs of today’s students. Since 2000, we have reached more than 10,000 young people and have expanded our award-winning programs to Africa.

icouldbe.org connects volunteer mentors from hundreds of professions to young people interested in their fields. E-mentoring takes place entirely online in a protected environment where mentees work through a structured curriculum that includes career and college planning, financial literacy and college community service.

New evidence shows that online mentoring has many of the same benefits as face-to-face mentoring, improving mentees’ self-efficacy and helping them set and reach their educational and career goals.
